If music be the food of love, play on

Twisted Pages at the Waterfront Winter 2012
'Harmonography'

Twisted Pages finished piece of work 'if music be the food of love, play on' for the Waterfront Arts Project in Southport. The current exhibition that opens Sunday 2nd December 2012 is titled 'Harmonography' and showcases works by many artists around the theme of sound. The exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, photography and installations, the gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday 12-4 and is situated by the Marina lake next to the Remada hotel, the promenade. Southport, Merseyside.

Twisted Pages piece is a combination between handmade paper, figurative sculptures and functional objects with a 'twist'. With a simple yet elegant feel and a sharp red, White and black colour scheme. Based around the line from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night 'If music be the food of love, play on' we have crested a tea party themed scene focusing on music, food and love. Our intentions to include everyday objects within our work has seemed to work well. As always with our work we aimed for this piece simply to be enjoyed by the viewer.

If music be the food of love, play on

Twisted Pages current project is based loosely around a quote from the Shakespeare's      Twelfth Night

'If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die'

The work that we are doing will be part of the upcoming exhibition at the Waterfront Arts Project in Southport, Merseyside.

The exhibition title is Harmonography and will bring together a vast mixture of Music and Art.
Within our own work we have taken the quote and used it as a starting point to experiment and create small detailed sculptures in a representational style. A change of style that we have really enjoyed. We still have more to do! and we will post new pieces of work as we do them.

The Waterfront Arts Project is open Tuesday to Sunday 12pm to 4pm and is situated next to the Ramada Hotel on the Promenade Southport. The current exhibition titled 'Windows' is a must see! Also the newly opened adjoining Gallery B has graet art work on display.

New Brief, New Work

We, Twisted Pages decided that we wanted to enter Liverpool Art Fair's Print Edition Exhibition this December. After exhibiting at Liverpool Art Fair at Camp and Furnace this Summer we were excited to apply again this time around. As our usual twisted style incorporates paper manipulation and three dimensional work we had to take a slightly different creative path in order to meet the submission criteria.

This is something that if we admit, we were a little apprehensive about! We started to experiment with different media and techniques and actually began to enjoy ourselves!
The work that we created is different to what we normally do, but we are so pleased with it.

I guess that's what happens when you force yourself to try something new!

Under the Umbrella of the Soul

Our latest installation piece on display at the Waterfront Arts Project the Promenade, Southport opens for public viewing on Sunday 30th September, 2pm to 5pm. The exhibition featuring many artists both local and national is titled 'Windows' and features paintings, sculptures installations and photography. The Gallery is free to visit and is open every day from 12pm to 4pm.

Twisted Pages piece 'Under the Umbrella of the Soul' is a mixed media installation using a variety of our paper manipulation techniques. The piece was inspired by the quote

'The eyes are the window to the soul'

We have created this piece with the help of some of our friends, family and supporters who kindly answered a questionnaire that we created around the subject of the soul. The questions were as follows:

1. What would you say in your own words a persons soul is?
2. Can you describe in a sentence what I would see if I could look inside your soul?
3. If you could choose a colour to represent your soul, what colour would you choose?
4. What would you say that the single most important thing is to you?
5. If you could choose three things that you wanted in life, what would they be?
6. What are you most proud of?

The response that we got was fantastic, the wide variety of honest and interesting answers gave us lots of ideas. We took the answers as our starting point and from them created the newest creation in Twisted Pages portfolio and we are really proud of it!

We would like to say a special thank you once again to all thepeople that helped us on this piece, we couldn't have don this without you :)

The Eyes Are The Window To The Soul

Our next piece for the Waterfront Arts Project is nearly ready. The next exhibition is titled 'Windows' and we have taken our inspiration from the quote

' the eyes are the window to the soul'.

We compiled a questionnaire that we sent to various friends, family members and followers on the subject of the soul. This included what colour they would use to describe their soul, what we would see if we could look inside their soul and what they would wish for from life.

We got some brilliant answers and would like to thank everyone that took part. We used these answers as our inspiration, here are some samples of what we have done so far.

We have used lots of colour, that was picked out from the answers that we got. As you can see we have used the quilling technique quite a bit in these pieces, that will be put together to create a large hanging installation. The delicate and intricate detail of the quilled paper perfectly represents some of the honest and open answers that we were given.

There is still a little more to do but Twisted Pages next piece of paper art work is well on the way. The piece will go to the Waterfront Gallery on the Promenade, Southport , Merseyside some time in mid September (date to be confirmed) This contemporary fine art exhibition that will include local, national and international artists is once again shaping up to be a must see!

Southport Flowers Show Success

As you will know from our previous posts Twisted Pages and the Artists from the Waterfront Arts Project have taken part in a large scale installation exhibited at Southport Flower Show last week. The show ran from Thursday 16th of August to Sunday 19th of August and was once again overflowing with thousands of curious visitors!

The Waterfront's installation that was made up of over forty mini bar fridges was spread across three sites dotted around the huge grounds where the show took place. The beauty of this exhibition titled 'COOL!' was that it allowed members of the public visiting the show to engage with the art by actually touching it! Each fridge when opened displayed an individual piece of art work, created by the Waterfront Artists especially for the show.

It was great to see crowds gathering around the fridges and tentatively opening each door, people of all ages could enjoy this interactive piece of art as there was definitely something for everyone.

The response that we got was amazing! With many people paying the Waterfront Arts Project tent a visit to tell the artists just how much they loved the work. With many enquiring about visiting the gallery itself and also informing us that they had already seen some of the fridges on display in the Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street.

The piece was definitely a success and we can't wait for next year!

The newest exhibition piece that Twisted Pages have created will go on show next week among many other brilliant artists from Southport's Waterfront Arts Project. All the artists have been working on a variety of mini bar fridges to create a large number of cool 'fridge installations'.

Fridge #1

Twisted Pages new piece is ready and off on its way. Once again we have adapted our paper manipulation skills to a new environment, a mini bar fridge! On 16th of August the gates to Southport Flower Show 2012 will be opened allowing the thousands of visitors to interact with local art in the 'Fridge trails'

Being inspired by the show we decided we would do a bit of gardening the Twisted Pages way and created 'The Secret Summer Garden'. A wonderfully special, wild garden complete with wildlife also handmade from paper.

Southport Flower Show Project

Twisted Pages are involved in another project organised by the Waterfront Gallery. The artists currently working at the gallery will be taking part in a large scale installation piece that will be featuring alongside all the lovely floral displays at Southport Flower Show 2012.

Each artist will be designing and making one or more unique pieces of art that will all be part of a large art installation. We are in the first stages of making our first piece. It will all make sense a little later on!

Window Display

Twisted Pages have been asked to create a window display for a dress shop in Southport, Merseyside. We are working around the clients rough theme of Autumn. She has asked for a simply styled display that will be crisp and elegant. We are working at the moment using leaves as the base of the design and continuing from here.

As the displays in the shop will be constantly changing we have decided along with the owner of this stylish shop to create a piece that will work well with all her displays as and when she changes them.

We have decided to use white as our base colour, this will of course be key to keeping the piece crisp, elegant and timeless. As our piece should be ready for the beginning of Autumn, we have chosen to incorporate a little bit of copper into the display to give it a rich and warm edge.

Here are a few of our samples to take a look at

The Dress

Twisted Pages are excited to announce our fourth exhibition at the Waterfront Gallery will be open from Sunday 15th of July. The piece is influenced by Summer, the road maps for traveling and holidays and the flowers for bloom. The dress itself has a very 'summery' style to the design with the open back and loose skirt.

We continue to push the boundaries of paper manipulation within our work. In this piece we treated the paper as fabric and used new techniques, particularly paper folding and added  an origami touch also.

It has long been our intention to create a paper dress and from the feedback we have already received we have a feeling this wont be our last!

Summer Open Exhibition Work

Twisted Pages next exhibition piece will go on display amongst other artists at Southport Waterfront Arts Project in Merseyside on Sunday 15th July 2012 2-5pm. As the theme of this exhibition is 'open' Twisted Pages has taken this chance to experiment with our work and go down a completely new creative channel.

We have again worked with paper but instead of our usual quilling technique that we have used within our previous work, we wanted to try our hands at a little origami! We decided that we would create a piece that was fun and used the mini theme of 'summer' loosely  bringing together the ideas of summer flowers and travel and combining them with crisp bright colour.

Here is a little preview of our work so far, we would love to hear your feedback!. Also don't forget to drop into the Waterfront Gallery, in Southport, Merseyside PR9 0DZ open daily 12 - 4 this exhibition promises to be a must see!
